Mark Bryan

Mark Bryan is a straight, cis man who enjoys wearing skirts and high heels every day. He currently lives in Germany and works as a robotics engineer which reflects in his personal style. When he is working his style usually consists of an over-the-knee skirt, heels, a blazer, and a collar shirt. In his free time though, his outfits are more colorful, his skirts are bigger, and he gets more expressive in what he wears. Mark Bryan first wore high heels and a skirt as a 20-year-old in college when his then girlfriend joked that he should wear heels so that they would be the same height. He later rediscovered the skirt and heel at a halloween party with his current wife as part of his costume. He describes a feeling of empowerment and confidence in wearing it. At the party people were giving him compliments and he felt really good about himself thinking why not wear this every day? And that is exactly what he did. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar he speaks out about the violence against transgender people and others of different sexualities. He says “it’s sad that happens, but it’s not because of what they’re wearing’ ‘’it’s their sexual preferences that offend people. And that’s probably why I don't have any problem. I don’t get attacked, I don't get beaten up. I get people maybe looking at me or something.’’ He goes on to say that he keeps a pair of pants in his drawer for meetings because he is not interested in talking about his clothing with clients, it is only business. So even though he does not get violated because of his fashion choices, he is still affected by the stigma surrounding it. There is no need for women to change from trousers to skirts before a meeting because no one will question the clothing choice since it has become normalized for women to wear them. So there is still this expectation of perceived abnormality and making others uncomfortable when he wears skirts.
